The nation's first booze-selling Taco Bell opened yesterday in Wicker Park, Chicago's trendy west-side neighborhood. I stopped by for a couple drinks and food. When I arrived, it was pretty empty other than a handful of what looked like Taco Bell corporate big whigs. It was only a matter of minutes though before the place filled up.
The interior doesn't look like your typical Taco Bell. It's decked out with graffiti, modern seating and tables, and a couple large flat screen TVs.
They're calling yesterday's opening a soft opening, with the official opening being September 22nd. But no soft opening goes without some hard liquor. With the new concept of selling alcohol, they're offering Beer, Wine and boozy slushy drinks. Additionally, their are new "shareable" menu items.
Here's what you need to know.
They will stop serving booze at 10pm during the week, and 12am on the weekends.
Beers are 4/4.50 for Fatire/Dos Equis. Boozy slushy drinks are between 6-7 dollars. They also have wine but who drinks wine with tacos? The $3 shareable nachos were really good, and a great deal!
